LORD, I RECEIVE

Luke 1:38- And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

To me the verse above is one of the most profound verses in the Scriptures.  Mary agreed to conceive our Lord and Savior.  This humble virtuous woman opened herself to be a vessel used by God.  Blessed and highly favored, Mary took her position as another of the Bible’s characters to be instrumental in bringing salvation to man.  How sad it is that Mary is worshipped as a deity when she should be viewed as a vessel who received the Will of God for her life.  Mary, like each and everyone of us, needed the Word of God.

Mary received God’s spoken Word, and then conceived the Word (John 1:1)!  At the cost of losing her soon to be husband, being stoned to death, remembered to be a disgraced to her family, and the pains and suffering of child birth, Mary received God’s Will even at her own peril.

When it comes to doing God’s Will, spend no time thinking of your own fleshly desires and goals.  Let pleasing God be the zenith of your life’s worth.  And although your flesh will not agree with the Word of the Lord say this, “…Be it unto me according to thy Word.”
